Raising Your Mood as a New Mum: Small Daily Choices That Make a Big Difference

Vibe Fit Mums

When you're feeling low or emotionally drained, it's natural to want to get rid of the negative feelings. But what if, instead of focusing on pushing those feelings away, you focused on doing more of the things that help you feel like you again?

Sometimes, the smallest moments of self-care can make the biggest difference.

Get Outside in Nature

Fresh air and a change of scenery can do wonders for your mood. Pop your baby in the pram or carrier and head out for a walk. Whether it's through the park, around your neighbourhood, or along the beach, being outdoors can help you slow down, clear your mind, and reset.

Join a Parent and Baby Exercise Class

If you're ready to return to exercise, try a parent-and-baby fitness class or a group exercise class with uplifting music. Whether it's postnatal fitness, dance, legs bums and tums or a cycling class, moving your body alongside other mums can be incredibly empowering.

Exercise releases feel-good endorphins, while the music, encouragement, and group atmosphere can lift your spirits. Even more importantly, you'll meet other mums who understand exactly what you're going through. Sometimes it's not just the workout that helps, it's the connection, laughter, and knowing you're not alone.

You might arrive feeling exhausted, but you'll often leave feeling stronger, more energised, and more confident.

Listen to Music That Makes You Smile

Create a playlist of songs that instantly lift your mood. Play it while feeding your baby, cooking dinner, tidying the house, or dancing around the living room together. Music has an amazing ability to change how we feel in just a few minutes.

Spend Time with Animals

If you have a family pet, spend a little time with them each day. Throw a ball for your dog while you're out on a walk, cuddle your cat, or simply enjoy watching the birds in your garden. Animals help us stay present and often bring moments of calm and joy.

Make Time for Things You Love

Motherhood is a huge part of who you are, but it isn't all of who you are.

Even if it's only for 10 or 15 minutes, make time for something that is just for you. Maybe that's taking a relaxing bath with candles, reading or simply taking time to sit and relax with a hot drink.

Doing something you genuinely enjoy reminds you that your wellbeing matters too.

Remember: Small Daily Choices Create Big Changes

Looking after yourself isn't selfish, it's essential. When you take care of your own physical and emotional wellbeing, you're better able to care for your baby too.

So today, ask yourself:

"What's one small thing I can do that will make me feel happier, calmer, or more energised?"

It could be a walk in the fresh air, a fitness class, your favourite song, a cup of tea in the garden, or ten minutes spent doing something you love.

Those small moments add up. One positive choice at a time, you're supporting your own wellbeing and creating a happier, healthier version of yourself, for both you and your baby.
