Why We Love Homemade Chia Jam

Nutrition

With so many products on supermarket shelves containing long ingredient lists, added sugars and ingredients we may not recognise, we love going back to basics and choosing foods that are easy to understand. Two of our favourites are homemade chia jam and simple rice cakes made with just two ingredients: rice and salt.

Homemade Chia Jam: Know Exactly What's Going In

Many traditional shop-bought jams contain significant amounts of added sugar. Some varieties may also include syrups, preservatives or other ingredients depending on the brand. Making your own chia jam gives you complete control over the ingredients. Our simple chia jam recipe uses just four ingredients; fruit, chia seeds, lemon juice and maple syrup. Chia seeds are a source of fibre and plant-based omega-3 fats, making them a great addition to a balanced diet. And the best part? It's incredibly easy!

Simply cook and mash your favourite berries, stir through chia seeds, maple syrup and lemon juice, simmer for a few minutes and allow the mixture to thicken. That's it!

You can adjust the texture and sweetness to your liking and make exactly the amount you need.

Delicious, Versatile & Easy

Homemade chia jam isn't just for toast.

Try it:

  • On rice cakes

  • Swirled through yoghurt

  • With porridge

  • On wholegrain toast

  • Alongside nut butter

  • With pancakes

It's an easy way to add fruity flavour to everyday meals and snacks.

Why We Recommend Two-Ingredient Rice Cakes

We believe snacks don't need complicated ingredient lists. That's why we recommend rice cakes made with just two ingredients: rice and salt. They're light, crunchy and incredibly versatile, making them an easy base for both sweet and savoury toppings. More importantly, a short ingredient list makes it easy to see exactly what you're eating. Top them with homemade chia jam and yoghurt for something sweet, or try avocado, hummus or cottage cheese for a savoury option.

Simple Food, Made Better

You don’t have to make food complicated. Choose simple ingredients where possible and make everyday food enjoyable.
