One Month In

Back in January, we proudly launched the FAVE Fitness Older Adults Project with a clear purpose: to support older adults to move more comfortably, build confidence in their bodies, and reconnect socially through regular, inclusive activity. Just one month in, the early impact has been genuinely uplifting.

A Safe Space to Move and Thrive

The weekly chair-based sessions are led by Susan Grassick and Shelley McGurk, who have created a warm, supportive environment where everyone feels welcome and encouraged. Each session focuses on improving strength, mobility, balance and coordination, all delivered in a way that feels achievable and empowering. Chair-based exercise may be accessible, but it is by no means passive. Participants are challenged appropriately, supported throughout, and always reminded that progress looks different for everyone.

Early Wins That Matter

Even in these early weeks, the feedback from participants has been incredibly positive. One attendee shared that she has already noticed a clear improvement in her mobility after just three sessions. Another told us that the social side of the project has helped her feel less isolated, giving her the opportunity to meet new people and feel part of a community again. These moments matter. They remind us that movement isn’t just about physical health, it’s about confidence, independence, and connection.

More Than Exercise: Building Community

One of the most powerful outcomes so far has been the sense of togetherness in the room. Participants encourage one another, share laughs, and arrive each week with growing confidence. The sessions have become something to look forward to - not just for the exercise, but for the conversation, support and friendships forming around it. Reducing isolation and creating welcoming social spaces is just as central to this project as improving physical wellbeing.

Looking Ahead

The FAVE Fitness Project reflects everything Vibe Life CIC stands for: inclusive, community-first fitness that meets people where they are and supports healthier, happier lives. As the weeks go on, we’re excited to build on these early successes and grow the scheme across the West Midlands, reaching more older adults who can benefit from moving together in a safe and supportive setting. This is only the beginning, but already it’s clear: when people feel supported, valued and included, incredible things start to happen.
